A Travellerspoint blog

Lake Maninjau

Smaller than Toba, we were able to hire a motorbike and drive round it within a few hours leaving time before sunset to take out a canoe skilfully crafted from a single tree trunk. Despite the locals gliding around, it is actually an incredibly difficult balancing act, for us at least; several times we nearly ended up in the lake.

On the whole we have been a little disappointed with food in Sumatra but meals in the sweet bungalow guesthouse offered some salvation. Not that we’re complaining – we are off to Vietnam next!
